How many times have you reached into your closet only to say "I have nothing to wear" when really, there are a tonne of options to choose from staring right at you. What we're really saying is "It doesn't look the same since I've washed it a couple of times" or "That's not in style anymore".
Buying clothes has become so complicated recently. We own so much more than our parents generation ever did, and we only wear a fraction of what we own. The trend as of late has been cheaper products...and a lot more of them. It's very common to walk into a store or go online and see giant discounts of 50% off, or prices slashed down to $5 for a dress. And so we buy more.
But what if we took a step back and looked at the quality of what we're buying? Usually items that go for much less money are made quick and cheap. This is the basis of what fast fashion is. These are large corporations outsourcing their manufacturing to the lowest bidder in hopes to slash prices. Unfortunately, this means that the workers feel the brunt of the cost cutting. They are often forced into working long hours, with poor working conditions, all to save the big companies money.
So what is slow fashion? Slow fashion is the opposite! It is all about quality over quantity. Slow fashion embraces the people making the garments, realizing that there is so much talent and dedication put into the clothes that we wear. Slow fashion houses are dedicated to working with smaller manufacturers who follow strict labour laws, pay proper wages, and give their employees respect and admiration for their talented work. There may be smaller batches of clothing being delivered to the company, but everything is made well and is meant to last!
Slow fashion is a movement that helps us tackle a lot of issues within the garment industry so that we can feel good about what we wear. Here at Pros and Cons Apparel we are committed to being a slow fashion house and providing the best in ethical apparel!
